Tahkoluoto-Ulvila 400+110 kV power line

The Extension project of the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm is expected to increase the green energy production in the area tenfold. The current offshore wind farm with its 11 wind turbines produces approx. 157 gigawatt hours annually, whereas the Extension is expected to generate up to 1800–2600 gigawatt hours per year.

As the existing power grid alone does not have the capacity to transmit the electricity to the main grid, Tahkoluoto Offshore Oy is planning an approx. 40 kilometres long 400+110 kV power line from Tahkoluoto to Fingrid’s substation in Ulvila. The new power line will strengthen the security of supply and act as back-up for the power transmission of the existing Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm. The new power line will also benefit the Port of Pori and the existing industry at Tahkoluoto, as well as boost new investments, e.g., in hydrogen industry.

The Tahkoluoto-Ulvila 400+110 kV power line project will examine the possible routes and viable methods of transmission, with the aim of using existing structures as much as possible. The project is currently in environmental impact assessment (EIA) phase, the aim of which is to reduce or prevent the negative environmental impact of projects. The findings of the EIA process will be taken into account in planning the implementation of the power line. The EIA is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025, after which the project enters the permitting phase.
